What comes with a teeth for a lifetime examination?During a teeth for a lifetime examination, we perform a lot of different tests. We want to diagnose what your teeth are currently going through, and get a really good idea of what is likely to happen to your teeth as you age. We are going to take some laboratory tests to help aid our prognosticating, so we can do whatever is necessary to help you retain your teeth for as long as possible.
We will do a little bit of salivary and blood testing so that we can get a good idea of what bacteria burden your mouth currently has. We will also be running tests for specific genetic susceptibility traits. This will give us a really good idea of things you may be more susceptible to as you get older.
CariScreen is one of the tests we will also perform. It tells us how at risk you are for developing caries, or tooth decay. It only takes about 60 seconds, and is done while you are in our office. It helps us understand if you are currently experiencing tooth decay, and what bacteria levels you have in your mouth that could be attributing to future tooth decay.
What we want to do is determine what etiology of disease you may have in your mouth. Also, we want to determine which genetic markers you carry, so we can keep an eye out for specific disease that may be coming your way. This can include things like diabetes and CRP/inflammatory diseases.
